LOS ANGELES (March 5, 2008)—Christie, Parker & Hale LLP (CPH), one of Southern California's leading intellectual property law firms, today announced that it completed the sale of a U.S. patent earlier obtained on behalf of one of its clients, Dr. Irving Reed, a well-known mathematician and engineer in the area of telecommunications. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The patent relates to communication technology and, more particularly, to a self-synchronizing adaptive multistage receiver for wireless communication systems. Specifically, the patent is directed to an adaptive near-far resistant receiver for wireless communication systems, such as asynchronous DS-CDMA systems without the use of prior synchronization. The only requirement for the receiver is knowledge of the spreading code of the desired user. Also there is no need of a training period or of data-free observations.

This technology may be used for voice and data communications, and is keenly suited for mobile phones. The identity of the buyer remains confidential, according to Raymond R. Tabandeh, the CPH partner who prosecuted the patent, negotiated and closed the deal.

Tabandeh said, "It was an honor to be able to work with Dr. Reed to prepare and obtain the patent. As people familiar with the industry know, Dr. Reed is best known for co-inventing error-correcting and error-detecting codes known as Reed-Solomon codes, as well as co-inventing Reed-Muller code.
