IP Strategy

IP Strategy @ CPH

Intellectual property (IP), such as patents, trademarks, copyrights, domain names, and trade secrets, is quite often an extremely valuable part of a company's business assets, and sometimes the most valuable part. Thoughtful management of a company's IP assets can be essential to continued success in the marketplace. At CPH, we counsel our clients on how best to manage their IP portfolio and how to leverage it for growth and competitive advantage.

Many of our clients ask us to attend their "patent committee" meetings and to provide recommendations about foreign filing, patent maintenance, patent enforcement, and related matters. Some clients ask us to assess whether it even makes sense to pursue patent protection, and whether their technology might be better protected as a trade secret. Trademark owners rely on CPH attorneys for counsel on trademark filing strategies, search methodologies, creation of trademark "families," and a number of other actions that can build a company's goodwill in various industries.

We recognize that most clients have a limited budget for protecting their IP and must make what can sometimes be hard choices as to which assets to keep and which to abandon. By working with our clients to understand their business, including their competitors, market barriers, and regulatory landscape, we can help in the decision-making process.
